Those working to combat human trafficking in Triangle, recognized on National Human Trafficking Awareness Day (WTVD)

Local groups gathered at the Salvation Army of Wake County Monday to recognize efforts to combat human trafficking in the Triangle.

North Carolina is one of the top 10 states for human trafficking, for commercial sex and labor. That's why local groups making up Partners Against Trafficking Humans in NC have been fighting the problem for years.

Since the Salvation Army received funding to hire a case manager for victims in 2011, the organization has helped dozens and dozens of victims of human trafficking.

On Monday, members of law enforcement, religious leaders, even students raising awareness in their schools were recognized for their effort to try to stop the exploitation.
