Second arrest made in Hillsborough bank robbery

HILLSBOROUGH (WTVD) -- UPDATE: (Friday, Jan. 15)

A second suspect in a bank robbery in Hillsborough was arrested late Thursday night in Siler City by the Chatham County Sheriff's Office.

Kelly Lashaun Wiley, 37, of 4093 N.C. 42 in Goldston was arrested about 11:30 p.m. He is being held at Chatham County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond. He was charged with three counts of common law robbery for bank robberies in Apex, Graham and Hillsborough. Additional charges for common law robbery in different locations are pending.

Hillsborough police arrested a woman Thursday believed to have been involved in a bank robbery earlier this week in Hillsborough.

Rebecca Amy Stasko, 27, of 3259 Chatham Church Road in Moncure was arrested about 4:30 p.m. She is being held in Orange County Jail.

Police still are seeking Kelly Lashaun Wiley, 37, of Goldston, also in Chatham County. His last known address is 4093 N.C. 42 in Goldston. Police obtained arrest warrants for common law robbery Wednesday against the two. Wiley also has an outstanding warrant for a robbery Dec. 31 at a First Citizens Bank in Apex.

Hillsborough police have obtained arrest warrants for two suspects in a bank robbery that occurred Monday morning.

Arrest warrants for common law robbery have been obtained against:

  • Rebecca Amy Stasko, 27, of Moncure in Chatham County. Her last known address is 3259 Chatham Church Road in Moncure.
  • Kelly Lashaun Wiley, 37, of Goldston in Chatham County. His last known address is 4093 N.C.42 in Goldston. Wiley also has an outstanding warrant for a robbery Dec. 31 at a First Citizens Bank in Apex.
  • UPDATE (Tuesday, Jan. 12):

    The Hillsborough Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff's Office say they are making progress into solving this bank robbery.

    "We have very good leads and believe arrests will be made for this robbery," said Lt. Scott Nicolaysen, commander of the Hillsborough Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division.

    Investigators are working with the FBI and the Chatham County Sheriff's Office. It is thought that the suspect or suspects in Monday's robbery committed other recent bank robberies in surrounding areas.

    ORIGINAL STORY:

    Police are searching for a man who robbed the CommunityOne Bank at 102 Millstone Drive in Hillsborough.

    A man entered the bank shortly before 11 a.m. Monday morning covered with a mask, hood and gloves, and yelled a demand for money.

    After bank employees complied, the man fled.

    The robber did not display a weapon, but it is unclear as to whether he is armed.

    As the man ran out of the bank, he dropped some of the getaway money. Those funds were recovered by law officers.

    Officers from the Hillsborough Police Department and Orange County Sheriff's Office responded to the call.

    A vehicle that may be connected to the case has been identified by investigators. Investigators have contacted the FBI. More information and surveillance photos will be released as they become available.

    No one was injured.
