RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Tyree Devon Herring, 25, is accused of stabbing his children's mother 12 times in addition to choking her until she passed out - all in front of their 3 kids ages 7, 1, and 8 months, according to police.

The arrest warrants allege the incident happened Thursday, Jan. 7 at the mother's mobile home in east Raleigh.

The victim, Iesha Duffy, was taken to WakeMed but her condition has not been released.

Police said they arrested Herring at a home near downtown. A woman who says she's Herring's great-aunt said Herring and his father were visiting when police showed up.

Brent Brooks, a neighbor of Herring, has children the same ages as the victim's and can't believe what they witnessed.

"It's real sad they had to witness that," he commented. "That's pretty tragic that they had to see all of that go down like that. I'm pretty sure that's going to traumatize them later on in their years."

Herring's brother told ABC11 that he doesn't know all the details but his family's main concern is for the victim and the children.

Police said the kids were taken to Child Protective Services.

Herring has been charged with attempted murder, assault by strangulation, breaking and entering with intent to terrorize or injure, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and assault inflicting serious injury with a minor present.
