Ostrich rescued from ice at zoo
The bird was stuck in a frozen pond

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (WTVD) -- Workers at the Pittsburgh Zoo rushed to help after an ostrich fell through thin ice and got stuck.

The animal made several attempts to swim its way out of trouble but just couldn't. After several failed attempts to use a pole to free the animal, a worker got into the frigid water and waded over to the big bird.

He worked to pull it towards other employees and after a couple of failed attempts he was finally able guide it to the bank where waiting workers help pull the bird back on land to the cheers of dozens of spectators.

Neither the bird nor the employee were hurt.
