WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The North Carolina State Highway Patrol was involved in a chase with a motorcyclist Wednesday afternoon in Wake County that ended in a head-on collision.

That motorcyclist has been identified as 34-year-old Scottie Lee Horne of Willow Spring.

Authorities said Horne was travelling on Highway 42, going 75 mph in a 45 mph zone. Horne was also reportedly passing several cars in a no-passing zone. A trooper attempted to stop Horne, but he took off.

The trooper said he chased Horne onto Hilltop Road, where Horne continued through the parking lot of the Citgo gas station. Authorities said Horne headed onto Highway 401, driving south in the northbound lane.

Horne did not get far before he struck a Honda sedan head-on. The driver of the Honda, 31-year-old Thomas Nelson, was not hurt.

Horne was taken to WakeMed where he was treated and released.

Horne has been charged with DWI, driving while license revoked, speeding, reckless driving, fictitious license plate, no insurance, failure to register vehicle, driving wrong way on dual lane highway, and felony speed to elude arrest.
