Thousands were without power Saturday morning

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A major power outage was reported in Raleigh on Saturday morning, with nearly 7,000 customers affected.

The outage ran along I-40, stretching between Tryon Road and downtown Raleigh. Outages were also reported in areas along Lake Wheeler Road and Hammond Street.

According to Duke Energy, the outage was caused by animals damaging the equipment.

Power was restored around 7:45 a.m.
