One person was rushed to the hospital after crashing into a utility pole

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A driver who crashed his vehicle into a utility pole Sunday morning in Fayetteville has died from his injuries.

It happened on Ramsey Street near Hillsboro Street around 5:15 a.m. Police said the driver of a white Lexus SUV was driving on Ramsey Street toward Country Club Drive when the vehicle ran off the road.

The SUV struck a utility pole, pinning the driver in the vehicle. Emergency crews took the driver to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in serious condition.

Police identified the man, who died after being taken to the hospital, as 28-year-old Kelvin Jamal Edge of the 3500 block of Rolls Avenue.

The accident forced the southbound lanes of Ramsey Street near Hillsboro Street down to one lane of travel for a while.
