Man hurt in hit-and-run
It happened on NC 24

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Authorities are searching for the driver who caused a wreck in Cumberland County Sunday that seriously injured an elderly man.

North Carolina Highway Patrol said a 1993 red BMW was travelling east on NC 24 and made a U-turn into the westbound lanes, cutting off an SUV travelling west.

The SUV overturned and landed right-side up on the shoulder of the road. Troopers said an elderly male passenger was thrown from the back seat into the front seat and suffered serious injuries.

The driver of the BMW jumped out of the car and ran after the crash. The car is not properly registered, so troopers do not know the driver's identity.

Troopers described the driver as a black man standing approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call State Highway Patrol at (910) 486-1334.
