Woman runs off road into creek in Southern Pines

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (WTVD) -- A woman is recovering after she drove off the road into a creek in Southern Pines early Saturday morning.

Authorities said it happened on U.S. 1 southbound near Pennsylvania Avenue around 2:30 a.m.

Officials said it took several minutes to find the car, which was upside-down in a creek about 10-15 feet below the road.

Fortunately, the driver was able to tell 911 that she heard an ambulance pass by where she was, officials said.

Rescuers were able to get the woman out of the vehicle. She was not hurt, but EMS took her to Moore Regional to be checked out.
