Durham's historic Carpenter Chevrolet Building torn down

DURHAM (WTVD) -- The historic Carpenter Chevrolet Building in Durham is no more. The demolition makes way for the new Durham Police Department headquarters.

The original design for the new complex included preserving the old Carpenter building built in 1923, but that proved to be too expensive.

The new Durham Police Department headquarters is expected to open in 2018.
