Nearly 50 volunteers from the Eastern North Carolina Region of the American Red Cross have been deployed to assist Louisiana flood victims.

Most are on the ground, but 15 are completing casework virtually from North Carolina.

Mary Donny is the Regional Disaster Officer based in Raleigh and will be in Louisiana for a total of 14 days.

"We want to do our part when something bad is happening elsewhere in our nation because we want everyone to come and help us when we're having to face like a hurricane or a tornado," she said when talking to us via Skype from Madisonville, Louisiana. "I do feel hopeful that together with all of our partners we can help people begin that path on to recovery."

For more information on how to help, go to, call 1-800-RED CROSS, or text the word LAFLOODS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
