RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Superman, Iron Man and Spiderman rappelled from WakeMed Tuesday, surprising kids inside the Children's Hospital.

"I've never seen a superhero before," said 9-year-old Hunter Capamaggio, who was at the hospital due to an infection.

The window washers-turned-superheroes work for Scotties Building Services and wash windows for WakeMed.

They surprised about 30 children, even rappelling directly outside the windows of the kids not well enough to leave their rooms and those in isolation.

It is the third time they've dressed up as superheroes, put on harnesses and surprised children at the hospital for various reasons.

Dakota Taylor, a spokeswoman for Scotties Building Services, said they hope to do it again. She said it's as much for the staff as it is for the children, brightening up everybody's day.

While it was a surprise for some children, 8-year-old Ashton Winston was told about the visit on Monday.

"I was just so excited I couldn't sleep," Winston said.

His father, Marcel, says Ashton was in the hospital last week due to sickle cell anemia and had to return Saturday because of pneumonia. Marcel said the visit perked them both up.

"He doesn't talk a lot as soon as he gets here," Marcel Winston said. "Now he's talking a lot, smiling up all day."

"It was really fun," Winston added.
