"The suspect demanded money or the victim's wallet," said Capt. Joe Binns, of the Garner Police Department. "Then at some point some kind of altercation occurred and the victim wound up being shot at least two times."

The shooter got away. Detectives said he was wearing all black with a black mask on.

Police said Sanders lives at the complex and reported he didn't know the shooter, but authorities are still looking into whether this was random.

"There are lots of things our investigators are looking at. Did the victim know the suspect? Was this a random act? Right now, we don't have any information to see either way. We are obviously looking at all types of angles," said Binns.
