LONG BEACH, Calif. -- A 2-year-old girl was hospitalized in Long Beach after a possible overdose of some kind while she was at a daycare center.

Madison Shannon was being monitored at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center on Thursday. Her mother, Tytrisha Butler, told Eyewitness News that doctors believe she ingested either some type of anxiety pill or sleeping medication while she was at daycare.

"I put her in the car, we got inside the house, and I saw her stumbling," said Butler.

Butler said it appeared her daughter was on something. Butler called her daycare provider, who said she thought the girl might have had Red Bull. The toddler was still out of it, and Butler took her to the emergency room.

The sheriff's department took a report at the hospital.

Ms. Nikki, the daycare provider, told Eyewitness News that she dozed off, and Shannon must have gone into her purse and taken a muscle relaxer she wrapped up in a napkin.

"I would never ever hurt anybody, I love all my kids here. It was an unfortunate accident that she went in my purse," Ms. Nikki said. "I'm not blaming her because it should have been in a secure place. I'm absolutely devastated that this happened."

Butler says she will be finding a new daycare provider for her daughter.

"Never had a problem, I actually love the daycare. She was a great person, until this happened last night," she said.

Shannon was expected to be released on Friday.
