Redman was forced to play near-perfect golf down the stretch to outlast Doug Ghim to claim the 117th U.S. Amateur Championship.

"I think it was obviously really gutsy, it was about never giving up and believing in myself," Redman said.

Redman was down two holes with two to play in the 36-hole match. Then lightning struck in a big way.

The 19-year-old, who went to Leesville Road High School, rolled in a long putt for eagle at the 17th.

Then at Rivera's iconic 18th, Redman hit three beautiful shots leading to a birdie that forced an extra hole.

That's where Ghim fell apart, opening the door for Redman to walk through and win. Ghim hit his tee shot in the rough and found two sand traps while Redman was safely on the green in two.

Ghim would concede the hole and the win to Redman, who's a sophomore at Clemson.
