Ramp from I-40 reopens after 2-year closure (WTVD)

For the first time in more than two years, drivers are now able to use the eastbound Interstate 40 loop at South Saunders Street heading into downtown Raleigh.

The loop has been closed since May of 2015 as part of the Fortify project, which will rebuild an 11.5 mile stretch of I-40/I-440 in Southern Raleigh.

In addition, the ramp on I-40 East, which drivers have been using to go north or south on South Saunders Street, is now being converted to the southbound direction.

It will be closed Thursday at 8 p.m. while the contractor rebuilds it. The ramp at Exit 289 will reopen Monday at 6 a.m.
