WAKE COUNTY (WTVD) -- A 7-year-old child was killed after a crash on US-70 in Wake County late Friday night.
Troopers got a call about a crash near the Johnston County line around 11:00 p.m. Highway Patrol said Leonel Martinez-Guzman, 37, was driving down US-70 when he spotted a pedestrian walking along the shoulder of the road. Martinez-Guzman reportedly slowed down to avoid hitting the pedestrian, 57-year-old Hea Woo of Clayton.
Troopers said a Jeep Liberty driven by 23-year-old Elizabeth Rhoads slammed into the back of Martinez-Guzman's car, causing Martinez-Guzman to strike Woo.
Martinez-Guzman's car rolled over into a ditch, causing 7-year-old Angel Juneal to be ejected from the car. Troopers said Juneal died as a result of the crash.
Highway Patrol told ABC11 Juneal was not properly restrained.
Rhoads told troopers she did not see Martinez-Guzman's car; she said Martinez-Guzman's car had its lights off. Troopers are still investigating that claim, and have seized Rhoads' car and cell phone.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash. No charges have been filed at this time against either driver. Troopers said charges are pending.
Woo suffered minor injuries. The drivers' conditions were not released.
