Child run over near Wake Forest
Authorities said the boy was riding his bike when he was hit

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Highway Patrol says a child was hit by a car after falling off a bicycle Tuesday night.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Forestville Road and Autumn Forest Trail in the Walkers Crossroads area of Wake Forest.

Authorities said the boy was hit by a black Mercedes after he took a turn and lost his balance.

But now the father of 9-year old Logan DeCosta says another child who was playing with his son near the road last night is disputing the official account.

He says the other child claims Logan was first hit by a red truck that clipped his bike and knocked Logan out into the road.

He says the other child told him that's when the Mercedes came along and ran over the boy.

Neighbors say they're pulling for DeCosta.

"He's a very loving kid, and I just hope he makes it out. I really do," said Amanda Hommey.

But DeCosta's father says doctors at Duke hospital where his son is in the intensive care unit tell him the boy is brain dead.

"I lost a son, you know. I lost my, my baby. I mean, be a man. Come and let us know what happened," said Logan DeCosta, Jr.

Highway Patrol said there was no physical evidence to indicate that any other vehicle other than the Mercedes hit DeCosta. No one they interviewed reported seeing a red truck. Officials said unless someone comes forward, their investigation is complete.

He says the family is now deciding whether to take the boy off life support.
