WILLOW SPRING, N.C. (WTVD) -- A local military family is heartbroken after thieves stole Christmas presents right out from under their tree.

The Ramanna family's home in Willow Spring was burglarized Monday afternoon while they were away.

"My phone had a text message on it from my dad that said your house was just broken into. The police are on their way," said Jennifer Ramanna. "I pretty much cried the whole way home."

When Ramanna arrived, she found her front door busted.

The thieves ransacked the home, tearing apart drawers and swiping electronics including a family computer, iPads and a video camera.

It's what can't be replaced that has Ramanna devastated. Her husband's shadowbox containing military coins and a replica pistol is now missing.

"That means a lot to him, and that was a big thing. They lost some of his friends over there," she said.

An Xbox containing her daughter's dance recital video was also taken.

Just days before Christmas, the mother of three is putting on a brave face for her family and trying to find a renewed sense of security.

Ramanna's husband, who is currently stationed in Texas, returns home this weekend.

"Knowing someone came in here that was not invited makes me angry," she said. "I feel violated. I don't feel safe. I feel like I'm looking at people and not trusting them."

A family member has set up a fundraising page to help the family. Click here to donate: http://www.gofundme.com/iy71y0

At last check, more than $4,200 had been raised.
