FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Family members say a man who died in a crash Tuesday night between a septic tank truck and an SUV was the patriarch of a blended family and leaves behind eight children.

"He loved his family. He was good husband, awesome father, and he will be missed," said Darrick Carter's wife Yvette.

The couple was married for three years.

"It's hard when you got kids and grandkids and some of them don't understand. So, you have to stay prayed up," said Yvette.

"A lot of people are in shock. This is a part of life, things happen. We just ask that everyone keep praying for everybody," said Carter's brother Michael.

Carter died when the North Carolina Highway Patrol says the driver of an SUV allegedly ran through a stop sign at Baywood Road and Murphy Road northeast of Fayetteville and hit the truck Carter was driving.

The truck flipped on its side and troopers say Carter, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown out and killed.

The SUV driver told investigators she did not see the intersection stop signs.

Resident Bobby Petersen told ABC11 he's seen numerous accidents at the intersection.

"This intersection is real bad," he said. "I've been here 22 years and we really need a stop light here or either 4-way stop signs."
