Crime alert issued at NC State after dorm robbery
Students moving in at NC State's campus got a scare overnight after students reported a robbery in their dorm room

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Students moving in at NC State's campus got a scare overnight after students reported a robbery in their dorm room, while they were sleeping. Now, as word has spread on campus, it's leaving some students and their parents on edge.

"They sent out a Wolf Alert and it said something about a male or two males came into a dorm room and I guess the dorm room was unlocked," said freshman Caitlin Patrick.

Campus police say around 3:15 a.m. Sunday two students woke up to find an unknown man in their room. That suspect allegedly grabbed their wallets from a dresser before fleeing in a black or dark colored Chevy HHR. He's been described as a black man in his mid to late thirties, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall with a muscular build, wearing a black and grey long-sleeve shirt, black ball cap and blue jeans. While neither of the students were hurt, it's left many of their peers feeling unsettled.

"I haven't even started classes yet, so it is a little intimidating. But it's definitely a reality check," stated Patrick.

Of course it's not just worrisome for students, this is the kind of news no parent wants to hear as they're dropping their kids off for the year. However, the school wants to reassure them there are steps students can take to protect themselves.

Campus security is encouraging students to keep doors and windows locked even when you're home; to hide or secure valuables in your room; and report any suspicious activity to campus police at (919) 515-3000 or by calling 911.

It's advice students said they plan on following, especially now.
