FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a woman has been charged in a crash that killed a decorated Iraqi war veteran.

Andrew Lee Brenner was killed riding his motorcycle on NC87 at Tom Starling Rd in Cumberland County on May 15.

Right after the crash, troopers asked for witnesses because it wasn't clear who ran a red light. Several have come forward, and LaQuanda McAlister is now charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.

McAlister turned herself in Friday and was released on a $1,000 bond.

Brenner's family said the former Army sergeant just retired on March 1 after 22 years serving his country.
