Driver, rescue crews stung by wasps after car accident
First responders had to brave wasp stings in order to get the driver involved in an accident to safety.

HOLLY SPRINGS (WTVD) -- Rescue crews had to endure wasp stings early Thursday morning while trying to help a driver involved in a crash.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Piney Grove Wilbon Road, near Brayton Park Place in Holly Springs.

Authorities said the 25-year-old driver was stung several times after veering off the road and crashing his vehicle into a tree - disturbing the yellow jackets nest.

EMS and firefighters were also stung as they treated the driver.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. Charges are pending.
