Durham police charge 16-year-old in murder of teen

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Police said Wednesday they have made an arrest in the August 10 fatal shooting of an 18-year-old.

Rakwon Smith was found in his home in 600 block of Lee Street - near the intersection with Geer Street. He died at the hospital days later.

Shawn Leroy Butler, 16, of Durham is now charged with murder in the case. Butler was arrested on Mine Valley Road in Raleigh by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Joint Fugitive Task Force.

In addition to murder, Butler is charged with two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Police said Butler and Smith were acquaintances.
