Eight-year-old hit by car in Cumberland County last Friday dies

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- An 8-year-old girl hit by a car in Cumberland County last Friday has died of her injuries.

The State Highway Patrol said LaMiya McLaughlin and her mother were crossing Cedar Creek Road together between relatives' homes when the girl started running and darted into the path of a Honda van.

LaMiya was taken by helicopter to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill where she passed away late Thursday.

The van's driver was not charged.

LaMiya was a student at Seabrook Elementary School in Fayetteville.
