ABC11 Exclusive: Orange County family shaken after drive-by shooting
Thomas Baker shows the holes where bullets came through his living room

ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- An Orange County family says their sense of security has been greatly affected after a near-miss in a drive-by shooting Wednesday night.

Thomas Baker says he was sitting on his patio at his home on New Sharon Church Road in northeastern Orange County when a burgundy mini-van drove by and began shooting. One of the bullets went through the house, nearly hitting his wife.

"It just upsets me that we are at home. Minding our own business. And somebody would come by here and fire into our home," Baker told ABC11.

The bullet went through Baker's living room wall and into the dining room, hitting one of the chairs which was just inches from his wife. He pointed out that if the bullet went in a slightly different way, she would have been hit in the side.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office recovered the bullet and are investigating. Baker says they don't have much to go on.

"I had an officer tell me this may be a gang initiation," Baker said. "But I am not buying that. I feel like there is someone that has a grudge for some reason to come out here to make a point."

He told ABC11 he didn't know why someone would hold a grudge and he is telling his story because he doesn't want it to happen to anyone else.

Baker says another neighbor told him someone shot toward their home that night, but it wasn't reported.

He says his house doesn't feel like home much anymore. He moved into his house last year.
