RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A Raleigh family was displaced after fire ripped through their home and destroyed many of their Christmas presents a day before the holiday.

The fire broke out around 11:30 a.m. Fire crews were displaced to an apartment complex on Faris Court.

"I just woke up to screaming really. My cousin she was screaming. She said 'Help me, help me'," said Tamuel Scott. "I just knew to get the kids out."

Scott, his wife, their three children, and a cousin were inside the home when the fire started.

Officials said the fire started in an upstairs bedroom. Investigators are working to figure out how it started.

People living in nearby apartments were evacuated. There were no injuries.

"I'm just glad everybody made it out safely, but, as of right now, I don't have anything. No shoes, no nothing," said Scott. "Everything is pretty much burnt up."

The American Red Cross is helping the family with shelter, food, and clothing.

Scott said his children's Christmas presents were destroyed. He is hoping to replace some of them in time for the holiday.
