FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Fayetteville police arrested a man on Monday and charged him with a sexual assault from 2006.

Anthony Jerome Lindsey, 49, was charged with second degree rape for an assault on an 18-year-old on November 6, 2006.

Police said they got a warrant for the arrest of Lindsey, a registered sex offender. He is currently serving a prison sentence for failing to report a change of address as a sex offender.

He was registered for indecent liberties with a 13-year-old in 1995, according to authorities.

Police said the victim's family knew Lindsey at time of the incident in 2006, but they didn't know his full name.

After the case was reopened, DNA evidence linked him to the crime, investigators said.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Detective J. Benazzi with the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 257-3668 or Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
