Police say 19-year-old Ravon Jordan was shot just after 1:00 a.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of Grandview Drive.

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A 19-year-old Fayetteville man is dead, after gunfire erupted during a house party early Sunday morning.

Fayetteville police confirm Ravon Jordan died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, less than a day after being shot in the head. His injuries resulted from a shootout between rival neighborhood gangs at a Grandview Drive residence. Party-goers on the 1500 block ranged in age 16-21, said police.

"I'm angry. I'm not frustrated. I'm angry," said Fayetteville Police Chief Harold Medlock. "Every parent whose child was out at one or two o'clock in the morning ought to hug their children today because they're home safe and not in the morgue."

Medlock says social media posts were behind the large gathering that began at a house party on Bunce Road late Saturday night. A dispute followed 70 young party-goers two miles away to GrandView Drive, where the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

"Thank God. Thank God more of these young people were not injured, killed or shot yesterday morning because of the actions of a few idiots in our city," said Medlock.

Medlock said a group of young men fired more than 70 rounds off five high-powered firearms, including a 12-gauge shotgun. No one is in custody yet, but the chief encouraged parents to check their kids' cell phones for video and pictures of the event.

"We're going to run them [suspects] right into the ground and get them off the streets so we don't have any more children in our city with their lives taken needlessly."

Anyone with information concerning the investigation is asked to contact the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 433-1856 or Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
