Fort Bragg paratroopers deploying to Afghanistan

FORT BRAGG (WTVD) -- Fort Bragg announced Thursday that paratroopers from 3rd Battalion, 82nd Aviation Regiment, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, Task Force DUSTOFF, will deploy to Afghanistan this weekend.

They are scheduled to depart on Saturday in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The paratroopers and their families will be able to say their goodbyes at 8 a.m. in the battalion hangar on Parham Boulevard next to the shopette on Simmons Army Airfield.

About 70 troopers will leave for Green Ramp at 11 a.m. and will remain there until they depart later in the evening.

Officials say the unit will provide medical support for U.S. and NATO forces. It is unclear how long they will be deployed.
