FORT BRAGG, N.C. (WTVD) -- An 82nd Airborne Division soldier was found dead in his barracks on Thursday, officials said.

Spc. Trenton Weston, 22, of Washington, Illinois, was a signal support systems specialist assigned to the 82nd Special Troops Battalion and 82nd Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade

"Spc. Weston was known throughout the battalion as being absolutely selfless when it came to helping others and accomplishing the mission. He will be sorely missed," said Lt. Col. David E. Vandevander, commander of the 82nd STB. "Our heartfelt condolences go out to Spc. Weston's Family and loved ones during this time of great loss."

Weston's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command is investigating his death.
