FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The man police say killed his ex-girlfriend in Franklin County was indicted for first-degree murder Wednesday.

Garry Yarborough, of Zebulon, is accused of shooting Tracy Williams on July 26 at an ATM in a grocery store parking lot.

Yarborough was also indicted for burning personal property, first-degree kidnapping, felony breaking and entering, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Williams' family said Yarborough stalked her for months, even after she went to police to get help.

Records show Williams filed protective orders against Yarborough in three counties.

Franklinton Police Chief John Green said Williams shot Yarborough as he attacked her in the parking lot of a Food Lion on U.S. 1. He said Williams' gun then jammed and Yarborough fatally shot her.

Yarborough surrendered peacefully to authorities in Raleigh the morning after he allegedly shot Williams when a SWAT team surrounded the Days Inn Raleigh Glenwood-Crabtree in the 6600 block of Glenwood Avenue.
