MEBANE, N.C. (WTVD) -- One man is being singled out for his Good Samaritan actions after he was stuck in traffic on I-85 with hundreds of others Tuesday evening.

His name is Thomas 'Dinky' Brown. Brown lives in Mebane and works at Duke.

Tuesday evening, a fatal wreck shut down I-85 for hours. Hundreds of drivers were stranded on the interstate as authorities investigated the crash.

During the standstill, Brown delivered drinks to other drivers, checked to see if children were hungry, ordered pizza for several families, and even held up a 'privacy blanket' for women who needed to use the restroom and couldn't hold it.

"He is absolutely amazing," said Michelle Deese, who was also stuck in traffic. "He was an angel put on that interstate for us yesterday night. He brought so much happiness to us when we were all thinking if we were 10 minutes further up the road, we could have been involved in a fatal accident."

Wednesday, Deese and Brown had a mini-reunion to recall memories of their time on the "85 block party", as Deese puts it.

As a show of appreciation, Deese offered to take Brown and his wife out to dinner.

"Just having him there was a very great distraction. For all of us. It kind of held us together," Deese explained.

"I'm just a good ol' country boy. Raised that way. With all this crime and stuff, it's ridiculous. We need to look after each other and what's around us", Brown said.
