RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A Wake County jury has begun deliberating in the death penalty phase of the Armond Devega murder trial.

On Monday, the same jury found him guilty of killing convenience store clerk Stephanie Anderson in 2008 because she couldn't open a safe.

He was also found guilty of attempted first-degree murder in another shooting and guilty of six counts of armed robbery in holdups between January and October of 2008.

He was found not guilty of shooting 32-year-old Anthony Dwayne Scarborough to death in February 2008.

Prosecutors say Devega showed no mercy for his victims and deserves to die.

Defense attorneys have argued he has brain damage from being abused as a child and should be sentenced to life in prison.

It has been almost seven years since a Wake County jury has handed down a death sentence.
