Boil advisory in effect after Wake Forest water main break

WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WTVD) -- Residents are still being warned to boil their water after a water main break closed part of Highway 98 in Wake Forest.

Raleigh, which provides the water to the area, says it needs to do tests for contaminants and has to wait on that at least 24 hours.

Part of the highway was closed early Tuesday morning. Authorities were forced to close the 700 block of Durham Road between US-1 and Tyler Run Drive around 2 a.m. because of the amount of water rushing out of a 12" pipe that ruptured.

The road also started to break away from the pressure. Crew says it wasn't too hard to fix although it took most of the day.

A detour was set up, and around 5:30 a.m., authorities reopened the westbound lane of Durham Road.

For the safety of repair workers, eastbound lanes were closed as they worked to fix the problems.

The break forced officials to cut off water to 70-80 residents, which was later restored before noon, according to Wake Forest Police.
