CAMERON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Harnett County sheriff's deputies have arrested one man in connection with a fatal shooting Sunday morning.

Deputies said they received a call around 3:45 a.m. about a gunshot victim on Romona Collins Court in Cameron.

The victim was reportedly shot in the chest. He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital and died shortly after arriving.

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Cheyenne Anthony Smith III, of Cameron.

Authorities arrested Antonio Dre'wan Jones, 19, on Sunday afternoon. Jones has been charged with second-degree murder.

Deputies said Jones lives in Robeson County, but lived in Harnett County until recently. Jones and Smith knew each other, authorities said.

Ebonee Gilchrist lives next to where the shooting happened.

"Cheyenne, we argued a lot. Debates in class, I mean we really argued," Gilchrist said. "But it was shocking because he's not that type of kid, he's a really good kid. His dad was strict on him, his dad disciplined him. So to hear he got shot is flabbergasting. Cheyenne, of all people."

Gilchrist was shocked to find out that she knew the victim and the suspect. All three of them went to West Harnett High School.

"Whenever I first met Antonio he had a good heart, he was genuine and nice," said Gilchrist. She said he had since fallen in with wrong crowd and it went from bad to worse.

Jones is being held at the Harnett County Detention Center under no bond. Authorities said he is the only suspect known to be involved in the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Brad Abate at the Harnett County Sheriff's Office, (910) 893-0156 or (910) 893-9111.

Meanwhile, Smith's family has started a GoFundMe site to raise money for his funeral.
