Man arrested in strip mall shooting released, will not be charged

DURHAM (WTVD) -- A man arrested Friday after a gun battle in the parking lot of a Durham strip mall is now a free man.

Police say Freddy Cheek was acting in self-defense. He was released from jail, and will not face any charges.

Police say Jacinto Barr was shot in the shoulder during the shootout.

They say Barr was the instigator.

He's now facing assault with deadly weapon and drug charges.
