Man found murdered in Cary
Police are investigating a murder in Cary

CARY, NC (WTVD) -- Police say they're treating the death of a man whose body was found in a car parked in a small shopping center early Saturday morning as a homicide.

Investigators have sent 72-year-old Luciano Mariano Andia's body to the medical examiner, but said he appeared to have sustained injuries that caused his death.

In a 911 call released Sunday, a caller reports Andia was shot.

"Somebody shot this man out there in a car ... he's dead ... the trunk is open and there are some holes through the window," said the caller. "Me and my friend just pulled up and we seen it."

Andia's body was found just before 7 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of a Dollar Tree at the corner of High House Road and Highway 55. A spokesperson for Dollar Tree said Andia was employed at the store.

Andia was found just as folks were starting off their day and running errands.

"They had a whole bunch of police vehicles around and it was taped off," said Cary resident Brian Hayes. "It isn't something that you see around here very often."

"It's very sad," said one Cary resident who didn't want to give his name. "It makes you frightened what is lurking around here."

A 20 minute drive away from the scene, Andia's family was in mourning at his Cary apartment. One family member answered the door in tears and said they couldn't speak right now about what happened to their loved one.

Anyone who might have information is asked to call the Town of Cary Police Department at (919) 469-4012 or file a report anonymously with Cary Crime Stoppers at (919) 460-4636. Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,500 for the arrest or indictment of those responsible for committing certain types of crimes. All calls will be kept CONFIDENTIAL at the caller's request.

The death is Cary's first homicide of 2015. The last one was in August of 2014.
