RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Raleigh police are on the hunt for a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident on Capital Boulevard. A man was found Wednesday night lying in the road at the intersection of Calvary Drive.

The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Edward Dean Trice.

A nearby business owner who said Trice was in his store minutes before being hit shared surveillance video with ABC11. It shows Trice in a blue shirt walking up to the counter to make a purchase.

Police say Trice was in a crosswalk when he was struck. Some drivers who were traveling on Capital Boulevard pulled over and called for help.

One caller told a 911 dispatcher, "He's lying in the road right now and they're trying to get the cars to stop. The guy that hit him just kept going."

That caller went on to say the victim wasn't moving and was having difficulty breathing.

Capital Boulevard was shut down as police investigated the accident. Police say the driver continued going north after hitting Trice.

"That's terrible," said Raleigh resident David Lucas. "I think that the person who did it should have stopped."

People who live and work nearby say this is a particularly dangerous area to cross and they're taking precautions.

"I have heard a lot of people, it happened the same thing on this street," said Raleigh resident Nancy Juaiz.

"I'm going to wait before crossing," said Lucas. "I'm going to mash that button and do like the sign says. Cars are kind of crazy...You just have to be careful."

Police say the vehicle involved is likely a sedan, with possible damage to the headlights and windshield. Anyone with information is asked to call police.

Trice is being treated at WakeMed. Police say his injuries are serious, but not life threatening.
