CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Shenequa Walker was arrested over the weekend after investigators determined she played a role in her 4-month-old son's death back in March.

No one came to the door at Shenequa Walker's Cary apartment on Monday. Many of her neighbors were unaware of the terrible scene that played out behind the door at apartment 14301.

Thirty-three-year old Walker made an excruciating eight-minute 911 call on March 3. It was four months to the day that she gave birth to her youngest son, A.J. Paramedics found him turning colors, unresponsive, and the boy was soon pronounced dead.

Monday afternoon, Walker faced a judge. She's charged in the baby's death.

Court documents from Cary Police allege Walker was "grossly negligent," and showed a "reckless disregard for human life."

"We'll make sure that justice is done for this little boy", said Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman.

Freeman and Cary police remain tight-lipped about how the baby died. And Freeman made no apologies for the time it took to finally charge Walker.

"I will say that when you have the death of a 4-month-old, you have to make determinations on what led to that death. And this case we felt like there were circumstances of negligence that justified the charges we decided to bring," Freeman explained.

Walker moved to Cary from central Florida last September. She had five children in all who lived with Walker inside her Cary apartment. The remaining four are in foster care. All of them are under 10 years old.

Walker worked for Universal Health Care, a long and short term rehab facility in north Raleigh. The company says Walker has been "indefinitely suspended."

Walker faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and negligent child abuse. She's being held on a $500,000 bond at the Wake County Detention Center.

She's due back in court on June 8.
