RALEIGH (WTVD) -- More than 100 NC State students turned the campus into a living graveyard Friday afternoon.

The group held a "die-in" inside the campus library, lying on the floor in silence to symbolize the deaths of Eric Garner and Michael Brown that have sparked protests and outrage across the country.

The silent demonstration then spilled outside where protesters marched on the sidewalks near the intersection of Avent Ferry Road and Western Boulevard.

The students chanted and waved signs demanding change to prevent fatal encounters.

"It's not that we're angry," said NCSU senior Desmond Sellman. "We're hurt, and I want to connect everyone to what we're feeling by allowing them to see what it looks like."

"I want the families to know that we care, and I want the communities to be protected. Hopefully, we can bring about some changes to make sure this doesn't come to Raleigh and our neighborhoods," said NCSU junior Morgan Davis.

The protest remained peaceful.
