Officials: Child playing with lighter causes Durham house fire

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Fire officials said a child playing with a lighter forced a Durham family of eight from their home.

The fast moving flames swept through the house in the 300-block of Briggs Avenue Sunday afternoon.

The fire was so intense that it melted the siding near the front door. There is also heavy damage to other parts of the home.

No one was injured.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.
