Man charged with DWI after fatally hitting pedestrian on Highway 55

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. (WTVD) -- Holly Springs Police have identified the pedestrian who was killed after being hit by a car in Holly Springs Saturday night.

Police say Jesse Lemar Lawrence, 33, of Holly Springs, died early Sunday at Wake Medical Center.

It happened just before 11 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Highway 55 and New Hill Road.

Darrius Cortez Gilbert, 20, who was driving the vehicle, has been charged with DWI.

The Holly Springs Police Department is investigating.
