Police: Cary man rammed officers car in chase
The chase began when police tried to make a traffic stop

LOUISBURG, NC (WTVD) -- A two-county chase ended in Louisburg on Highway 401 Thursday night.

Investigators said it began when a Zebulon police officer tried to stop a car for a traffic violation.

Thirty-five-year-old Micheal Shane Varnum of Cary allegedly refused to stop.

Wake County deputies and Highway Patrol troopers joined the chase. As the chase got into Franklin County, a Wake deputy and a Louisburg police officer were involved in an accident.

The chase continued into downtown Louisburg where police tried to box Varnum in. He allegedly rammed one police car and sideswiped another.

He now faces a host of charges. Police said they think alcohol was involved.
