Orange County police say wanted man is 'armed and dangerous'
Orange County police said a man fled from their custody Thursday and is now considered "armed and dangerous."

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Orange County authorities said a man fled from their custody Thursday and is now considered "armed and dangerous."

Around 11:30 a.m., Linwood "Fred" Clay escaped court personnel when they tried to take him into custody. He is wanted for outstanding warrants in Durham.

Clay ran to his gold four-door car, which was in a nearby parking deck. Police say he was headed to either Durham or Carrboro.

Authorities say 26-year-old Clay is a registered sex offender with an extensive criminal record. His violent felonies include kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Clay was described as a black male, weighing 180 pounds, 6'1" tall, and he has numerous tattoos.

If Clay is spotted, use extreme caution and notify the Orange County Sheriff's Office at (919) 245-2900.
