Robbery suspects sought in Cary
Cary Police are on the hunt for a suspect or suspects in two muggings that happened minutes and less than a mile apart.

CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Cary Police are on the hunt for a suspect or suspects in two muggings that happened minutes and less than a mile apart.

Capt. Randall Rhymes said that the crimes happened around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The first robbery happened along Cary Glen Boulevard near Weldon Ridge Road. The second was also on Cary Glen Boulevard but closer to Lantern Ridge Lane. The robber took jewelry, a wallet, and cell phones.

ABC11 did speak to one victim and family and friends of the other victim. They were not ready to make any official comments, but both accounts of what happened include being held up at knife-point.

One victim described the knife as being "a big kitchen knife."

Both their stories also include a second person, a possible accomplice to the suspect, holding the knife. In each case, that second person is reported to have been hiding in a nearby bush only coming out shortly after the initial contact.

The two victims echo the same feelings of safety about their neighborhood. Many told ABC11 that they think nothing of walking outside so late at night.

"I walk out this way. This is where I take my mom. We come down this road. It's pretty scary. This is a really safe area," said Jen Walker, who lives nearby.

"Many of the homes here have alarm systems. Many people have their own personal firearms. Hopefully, no one would come into the home, but we're all taking precautions," said neighbor Peggy Payne.

They're taking precautions right along with police. On Thursday night, at least two Cary police cars were seen riding around the neighborhood, possibly keeping an eye on the area.

If you have any information on the robberies, you're asked to call the Town of Cary Police Department at (919) 469-4012 or Cary Crime Stoppers at (919) 460-4636.
