Sampson Co. Sheriff investigating murder-suicide; bodies at 2 homes
Investigators in Sampson County say the deaths of two people in two different places are connected.

CLINTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Sampson County Sheriff's Office says two deaths in the Clinton area are an apparent murder-suicide. Shirley Garcia, 55, of Clinton was found shot to death inside her employer's home Friday morning.

Deputies rushed to the house in the 4900 block of Old Warsaw Road around 10:00 a.m. after getting a report of the shooting. Officials said Garcia's employer found her body.

Investigators said they quickly identified her estranged husband - Carmelo Garcia, 67 - as the shooter and while they were searching for him, some local schools were placed on lockdown. Garcia was tracked to a home in the 600 block of Henry Vann Farm Road. There, officials believe he took his own life.
