On Dec. 2, the child was rushed to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where ER doctors said the toddler arrived covered with bruises and "life threatening injuries."

"Once they determined that the child had severe injuries, they moved the child to UNC-Chapel Hill hospitals," said Lt. David McLaurin of the Fayetteville Police Department. "And they discovered the injuries were very serious. The child died a couple of days later (Dec. 4)."

Police issued arrest warrants for Jeanie Ditty and Zachary Keefer, 32, earlier this week after the state medical examiner ruled the child's death a homicide.

Keefer is not the father of the dead child.

Jeanie Ditty is being held with no bond.
