KNIGHTDALE, NC (WTVD) -- Knightdale police say a man was shot at a business in the 500 block of Hinton Oaks Boulevard Thursday morning.

It happened just before 9 a.m. at Hinton Oaks Industrial Park - in an area behind a large shopping center east of I-540 off Knightdale Boulevard.

Authorities said there was altercation between 45-year-old Darric McKayhan and 27-year-old Christopher Reives of Raleigh and Reives shot McKayhan in the abdomen.

"I heard a bang. It sounded like a gunshot, and we just thought it was construction work here next door, but then a dark blue vehicle went flying out here. It didn't even stop at the stop sign," said witness Randy Cobb.

McKayan is in fair condition at WakeMed. Police said Reives surrendered to detectives for questioning and the gun used has been recovered. There was no word yet on charges.

Knightdale police investigate at the scene.
