Thieves target Cary neighborhood
Several break-ins were reported on Manchester Drive

CARY, NC (WTVD) -- Seven crime scenes in just two days and now police are on the hunt for suspects. On August 17 and 18, several break-ins were reported on Manchester Drive and Clare Circle in Cary and a seventh was reported on Kimbrough Street in Raleigh.

For Teresa Pollock, one of those break-ins ended with the thieves making off with one of her cars.

"Someone had broken into three of our vehicles and they took off with one of them," said Pollock. "A blue Chevy Impala, that's gone."

In its place though sat a BMW dumped there by the thieves after it was stolen from one of Pollock's neighbors. The thieves also tossed around checkbooks.

"They tossed that guy's checkbook in our yard and then there was another checkbook in front of the house in front of us," said Kayla Newer, whose mother's truck was broken into.

"They trashed the inside of it," said Newer.

Inside of the truck was trashed but nothing was stolen. Still the entire incident, playing out at several homes in the overnight hours, is unsettling.

"It was surreal because nothing like that has ever happened here," said Newer, "It's such a safe neighborhood, that's one of the reasons we moved here."

Many of her neighbors feel the same.

Pollock has lived along Manchester for more than 10 years with her husband; they have a baby and now twins on the way. They say they never felt the need to lock their doors, but they do now.

"From this point forward obviously, we're lock, lock, lock!" said Pollock.

Cary police say they are investigating and so far there is no word on any possible suspects.
